Seeing stars at Smiths Hotel…

It’s celebration time here at Smiths Hotel! We’ve just learned that we have been awarded a fresh set of awards recognising customer service and the quality of our hotel and restaurant!

How exciting!

Our Chainmail Restaurant has, for the fifth year running, retained its 2 AA Rosettes for food excellence …. and Smiths Hotel itself retained its 4 star AA Hotel status which is the most widely recognised quality standard award for hotels! (We’re especially pleased as we’ve now been awarded our 4 star status from both the AA and VisitScotland for 11 consecutive years!)

Our good luck with awards this year doesn’t end there! We’re excited to announce that we’ve also been awarded a string of customer service awards….all of which come from the reviews from you, our highly valued guests! Through various online booking sites (TripAdvisor, Expedia, Laterooms…), the feedback Smiths Hotel has received through reviews has meant we’ve received the Booking.com customer service award and the Classic British Customer Experience Excellence Award! There was also a surprise in the post for us just last week in the form of an award certificate from Chief Executive at Classic British Hotels consortium with the congratulatory message: “Congratulations to all the team at Smiths for their dedication and commitment to the guest experience, which has led to consistently excellent guest feedback”!

We’re absolutely delighted to receive these awards … they’re a great testament to our Smiths Hotel team who work with passion to maintain these standards! We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all the wonderful reviews and feedback that you, our guests, have left for us – we wouldn’t have these awards without you!

Get Ready! The “Best Wedding Fayre Ever” is coming soon to Gretna Green!

Gretna Green is holding it’s largest wedding fayre ever! Maybe the largest wedding fayre in the world. On Sunday 19th March 2017 from 12 noon – 4pm Gretna Green will be welcoming prospective brides and grooms from all over the country to discover what this romantic destination can offer to make a couple’s wedding dreams come true.

Couples will register for the event at Gretna Hall Hotel, where they will be entered into a free prize draw for an exciting mystery prize, which will be announced at Greens at Gretna following a bridal fashion show presented by Carol Roberts Couture Bridal and Genevieve of Carlisle.

During the day visitors will be invited to view the historic marriage rooms at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop and the marriage rooms at Gretna Hall Historic Marriage House plus the Old Toll Bar, Greens at Gretna Hotel and Smiths at Gretna Green. Gretna Hall will host the largest number of wedding suppliers to ever attend this event, with over 35 exhibitors; from bespoke invitation designs to unique entertainment and unusual party ideas.

All venues will have banqueting rooms set up to view how stunning your wedding celebrations could look and at Smiths, visitors will be able to sample culinary treats that couples can enjoy on their wedding day.

Michelle Hall, Wedding Manager, Gretna Green, and her team have been planning the Wedding Fayre Extravaganza for months and are excited to meet everyone who comes along. “This is something special. A wedding extravaganza like no other, showcasing one little village in the south of Scotland that has the largest romantic heart in the world! A Penthouse Proposal at Smiths Hotel Gretna Green

We love a good love story here at Smiths Hotel and the other day we were told one that’s sure to warm your heart with a touch of #howheasked!

Gillian got in touch to say thank you for a wonderful surprise stay … which turned out to have a very special ending!

“My partner proposed to me in your penthouse suite on Saturday and it was wonderful. The room is lovely and the staff are so welcoming, nothing is a trouble. The champagne and birthday gifts in the room were a lovely touch and the dinner was fantastic. The private booth was the perfect touch. Thanks for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back soon!”

Gillian and her new fiancé have been together for 12 1/2 years – they’ve always talked about getting married and Gillian loves coming to Gretna Green to see all the weddings so she thought it absolutely perfect that Danny brought her to Smiths for that all important question!

Congratulations once again Gillian and Danny – enjoy this exciting new adventure! We hear Gillian’s already planning the next trip …. “to check out the wedding fayre!”

Headed to the 2017 Prestige Hotel Awards Finals

Smiths Hotel among Scotland’s favourites! We’ve been hoping to hear about something we entered for a little while and we finally have an update!

If you’ve been following our page for a little while, you may have noticed that we asked for your support with the Prestige Hotel Awards back in 2016.

Well….we’ve got exciting news! Late last week, the finalists were announced after 7000+ votes were left by fans of each nominee…. and ….. we’ve been selected as finalists in three categories: Best Hotel Barista, Wedding Hotel of the Year and Country Hotel of the Year!

The awards will be revealed in February so we’ll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed and working hard to make sure everything is in tip top shape to impress the ‘mystery-shopper’ judges who will be visiting Smiths Hotel between now and the middle of February.

The 2016 Gretna Green Advent Calendar

It’s nearly December here in Gretna Green which means it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Finishing touches are going on our party nights at Smiths Hotel and our sister hotel Gretna Hall and Greens at Gretna, our first-ever Gretna Green Christmas decorations are here at Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop, Santa’s on the way to our Christmas family event at the Blacksmiths Restaurant with plenty of treats for the little ones …. and our festive menus are ready!
