Cocktails, spice and everything nice

As we all know, the Great British public love a good curry, so much so, it has become a national food in the UK. This autumn the team at Smiths Hotel at Gretna Green wants to heat you up and celebrate some of Britain’s most popular dishes with you and your friends or family.

Join us on the 9th November for a special evening full of flavour and spice.

What kinds of curry do smiths offer?

In Smiths hotel, our chefs, as traditional curry heirs, prepare fresh, organic ingredients to create our own curry recipes to excite your taste buds and warm your heart. Traditionally, Indian housewives would prepare their own curry pastes from scratch instead of using a pre-prepared paste. Curry powder doesn’t exist in India! There are many, many different varieties of curry, so recipe-specific spice mixes are more common. Our team at Smiths have followed the traditional techniques and created their own spice recipes to offer you an authentic flavour.

Why are curry and cocktails a good match?

Whether you are a big fan of Chicken Tikka Masala (we use authentic Punjabi Dhaba chicken to make it) or feeling adventurous for Beef Rendang (Indonesian coconut curry), great cocktails are the perfect partners to complement your journey through these delicious flavours.

Although some people consider a fresh beer as a perfect partner for curry, we believe the right cocktail is better! Our bar team have developed an impressive cocktail list to complement our own exciting curry recipes.

To balance the spice in curry, the cocktails need to be fruity and refreshing. Chambord Fizz and Classic Champagne Cocktails are just sweet enough to cool the taste buds; Larios Strawberry Gin normally mixed with tonic can add a much-needed touch of fruit to the mix; to pep up your party night you could choose one of our classic creations with a modern twist, such as the Long Island Iced Tea, Mango Margarita or Raspberry Martini for a great finish to your special and hopefully spicy night.

Whether you are a ‘Cosmo’ girl with a penchant for Punjab food or an ‘old-fashioned’ guy with a taste of Tikka; Smiths at Gretna Green will make the ideal dinner date for you!

Come join us for a relaxing night and savour the flavour!

5 ways to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

GO GREEN FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY

St Patrick's Day

We’d would like to join our friends from across the Irish Sea and celebrate St Patrick’s Day on Saturday 17th March. Here are our top 5 ways to commemorate St Paddy’s Day with food, drink and gifts from Gretna Green:

  • Sample some Irish Whisky  – Our Whisky and Gifts Shop at Gretna Green is home to a range of both famous and unusual blends of malt whiskies. So whether you prefer Scottish or Irish whisky, raise a glass to St Patrick’s Day!

  • Go green – go all out with green face paint, green hair dye and green clothing or opt for the more subtle green accessory – we have a range of gorgeous green items to choose from including green tartan, coats, scarves, gloves and bags. Getting married? Why not incorporate an Irish theme into your wedding with one of our stunning Celtic rings.

  • Irish food – the only day when green food dye is acceptable is St Patrick’s day! So you can either turn your family meal green or join us at Gretna Hall for a meal that has been given the seal of approval from our Irish friends – traditional leek and potato soup, followed by smoked salmon or steak and finished off with a Bailey’s Irish Cream coffee – delicious! To book a table visit www.gretnahallhotel.com/contact/ or call 01461 338257.

  • Throw an Irish themed party – the Irish certainly know how to party so why not join them with an Emerald Isle style party. Think Irish flags, shamrock confetti and fancy dress!

Happy St Patrick’s Day or “La Fheile Padraig” from the team at Gretna Green!
