Spring Wedding Open Day

Our Spring Wedding day is on Sunday, the 10th of March 2019, 10-4pm.

Calling all those who’re thinking about tying the knot this year! If you’ve recently got engaged, or have been for a while but haven’t found the right place to say your vows, or even if you’re just thinking about marrying, come along to our special Spring Wedding Open Day.

This wedding open day will allow you to see our entire suite of wedding venues and also meet and chat with our dedicated team of experienced wedding planners. From the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, the original home of romance, where the legend of the Gretna Green Anvil Wedding began, the historic Gretna Hall, to the cool contemporary environment of Smiths Hotel (link), and, finally to the gorgeous Water Gardens at Greens at Gretna. St George’s Themed Weddings

Planning on marrying in Scotland but want to add an English twist to your big day? The team here at Gretna Green have come up with a few ideas to help you plan a St George’s themed wedding.

St George’s Day celebrates the life of St George (patron saint of England) who by all accounts was quite the romantic. According to legend, St George bravely fought and slayed a dragon to save a princess.

If you’re a groom, don’t worry, we don’t suggest tackling a mythical beast to impress your bride to be. We suggest choosing a special gift and luckily, here at Gretna Green, we have loads to choose from. As well as our range of Scottish products, we stock a great range of ‘made in England’ gifts at our Gretna Green Visitor Centre from clothing and accessories to beautifully handcrafted jewellery. Keeping with the English twist, treat your new bride to a chic Grafea bag which are lovingly created in Manchester.

For a wedding fit for a knight and his princess, the theme has to be planned to perfection. Think about love and weddings. What colours spring to mind? For us, it has to be red and white. Red is the colour of passion and white symbolises purity and of course wonderful wedding dresses. And these colours aren’t just for brides and grooms wanting to add an English twist to their wedding, but also for those who want to inject colour and make a bold statement on their big day.

Now for the flowers, and the most popular wedding flower of all time – the rose. It’s no surprise that this flower has become a firm favourite amongst brides with it being a symbol of love, as well as the national flower of England. What does the Smiths Ultimate Experience Package include?

• Marry within the Courtyard Room at Gretna Hall, where the whole courtyard will be exclusively yours for two hours to allow you privacy.

• On the day prior to your wedding, you will be allocated a dedicated wedding planner who will guide you through your day. This planner will be exclusively yours on the day of your wedding and will hand over to your banqueting co-ordinator when you arrive back to Smiths Hotel for your celebrations.

• We will discuss with you your bespoke photography requirements and secure a premier photographer who will arrange and meet with you prior to your wedding. From preparation to your first dance, your day will be captured and from this, you can select 80 images. During your discussion with the photographer, you can choose your album from a collection.

• Your bespoke three-tier wedding cake will be created by our award-winning cake designers who will consult with you. Also included is a cake taster session which can be arranged either at the cake studio or we can organise this at Smiths Hotel.

• Traditional Scottish Piper will escort the Bride to her wedding and then lead the wedding party from the marriage room after the ceremony.

• Choose two cars from a premium collection and agree which members of your party will be escorted to the wedding venue. Each car will be available for two return journeys to and from your wedding venue giving you the flexibility to ensure your wedding party arrives in style at your wedding.

• Exquisite bridal bouquet and Groom’s buttonhole designed for you to enhance your wedding.

• You and your wedding party will have exclusive use of Smiths function area giving you the opportunity to have additional daytime or evening guests (up to 180, additional costs per guest stated below*)

• A DJ will entertain your evening guests who will enjoy your celebrations dancing on our polished pure white LED dance floor.

• Your guests will choose from Menu 3 (pre-order required) which includes three courses, tea, coffee and Scottish tablet.

• Your guests will enjoy our Cocktail Drinks Package which includes an arrival cocktail, a glass of red or white wine with the meal and a glass of champagne for the toast.

What to expect at a Gretna Green Wedding Fayre

Whether you can already hear wedding bells, or if you are still waiting (im)patiently for the question to be popped, our wedding fayre in March is certain to be an excellent day out!

Set over our three hotels and the Famous Blacksmiths Shop visitor attraction, you will have the opportunity, not only to experience all that the North West bridal scene has to offer, but all that Gretna Green have to offer too; from our luxury hotels and wedding venues, to wedding planners, kilt hire and gifts to name a few!

The Grand Tour

You will start your journey at Gretna Hall, the newest Jewel in our crown, with a warm Scottish welcome and registration; moving onwards to Smiths hotel round the corner – our 4-star, luxury, boutique hotel – where you will find all of our exhibitors ready and waiting to share with you their wedding talents and treats! From here, you can make your way, just the short, few steps across the road, to the historic, romantic home of the Famous Blacksmiths Shop! Step through the doors to over 250 years of history, in the footsteps of thousands of runaway couples to reach the famous anvil – not forgetting to touch it for luck in love! Then in the afternoon, make your way to our third and final hotel and the fourth stop on our tour – Greens Hotel – where you can enjoy a range of demonstrations, including ‘the right way to wear a kilt!’

You will have the chance to talk with our very experienced weddings team, throughout the day and perhaps even get a chance to rub shoulders with the Houston family themselves in our VIP room; sample dining treats from all of our hotels and take home a wonderful goody bag to remind you of your incredible day out!

Get Ready! The “Best Wedding Fayre Ever” is coming soon to Gretna Green!

Gretna Green is holding it’s largest wedding fayre ever! Maybe the largest wedding fayre in the world. On Sunday 19th March 2017 from 12 noon – 4pm Gretna Green will be welcoming prospective brides and grooms from all over the country to discover what this romantic destination can offer to make a couple’s wedding dreams come true.

Couples will register for the event at Gretna Hall Hotel, where they will be entered into a free prize draw for an exciting mystery prize, which will be announced at Greens at Gretna following a bridal fashion show presented by Carol Roberts Couture Bridal and Genevieve of Carlisle.

During the day visitors will be invited to view the historic marriage rooms at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop and the marriage rooms at Gretna Hall Historic Marriage House plus the Old Toll Bar, Greens at Gretna Hotel and Smiths at Gretna Green. Gretna Hall will host the largest number of wedding suppliers to ever attend this event, with over 35 exhibitors; from bespoke invitation designs to unique entertainment and unusual party ideas.

All venues will have banqueting rooms set up to view how stunning your wedding celebrations could look and at Smiths, visitors will be able to sample culinary treats that couples can enjoy on their wedding day.

A Penthouse Proposal at Smiths Hotel Gretna Green

We love a good love story here at Smiths Hotel and the other day we were told one that’s sure to warm your heart with a touch of #howheasked!

Gillian got in touch to say thank you for a wonderful surprise stay … which turned out to have a very special ending!

“My partner proposed to me in your penthouse suite on Saturday and it was wonderful. The room is lovely and the staff are so welcoming, nothing is a trouble. The champagne and birthday gifts in the room were a lovely touch and the dinner was fantastic. The private booth was the perfect touch. Thanks for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back soon!”

Gillian and her new fiancé have been together for 12 1/2 years – they’ve always talked about getting married and Gillian loves coming to Gretna Green to see all the weddings so she thought it absolutely perfect that Danny brought her to Smiths for that all important question!

Congratulations once again Gillian and Danny – enjoy this exciting new adventure! We hear Gillian’s already planning the next trip …. “to check out the wedding fayre!”

Introducing the winners of our Blacksmiths Wedding Package

You may remember a wee way back that we held a competition through Smiths hotel for one lucky couple to win a Blacksmiths Wedding package … fast forward 2 years and we recently welcomed our lucky winners to Gretna Green for their big day!

Lara and her hubby-to-be arrived with us just before their big day on the 25^th March. The competition winners had chosen to make their day in Gretna Green even more special with a few extra special touches, electing to have a piper for their ceremony at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, welcoming their guests to their wedding breakfast in Smiths at Gretna Green with arrival drinks and a stunning 3 course meal then dancing the night away with a disco.

Lara says, “We were over the moon winning the competition. The day was absolutely brilliant the service in the blacksmiths shop was so personal and you were made to feel so special. Our stay at Smiths was lovely we were in the Rose suite and it was beautiful. All in all we had an amazing wedding day and one we will remember for the rest of our lives.x”

The new Mr and Mrs Templeton are already planning a visit back up to the Famous Blacksmiths Shop to leave a lovelock on the wall of Love…
