Spring Wedding Open Day

Our Spring Wedding day is on Sunday, the 10th of March 2019, 10-4pm.

Calling all those who’re thinking about tying the knot this year! If you’ve recently got engaged, or have been for a while but haven’t found the right place to say your vows, or even if you’re just thinking about marrying, come along to our special Spring Wedding Open Day.

From the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, the original home of romance, where the legend of the Gretna Green Anvil Wedding began, the historic Gretna Hall, to the cool contemporary environment of Smiths Hotel (link), and, finally to the gorgeous Water Gardens at Greens at Gretna. Get Ready! The “Best Wedding Fayre Ever” is coming soon to Gretna Green!

Gretna Green is holding it’s largest wedding fayre ever! Maybe the largest wedding fayre in the world. On Sunday 19th March 2017 from 12 noon – 4pm Gretna Green will be welcoming prospective brides and grooms from all over the country to discover what this romantic destination can offer to make a couple’s wedding dreams come true.

Couples will register for the event at Gretna Hall Hotel, where they will be entered into a free prize draw for an exciting mystery prize, which will be announced at Greens at Gretna following a bridal fashion show presented by Carol Roberts Couture Bridal and Genevieve of Carlisle.

During the day visitors will be invited to view the historic marriage rooms at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop and the marriage rooms at Gretna Hall Historic Marriage House plus the Old Toll Bar, Greens at Gretna Hotel and Smiths at Gretna Green. Gretna Hall will host the largest number of wedding suppliers to ever attend this event, with over 35 exhibitors; from bespoke invitation designs to unique entertainment and unusual party ideas.

All venues will have banqueting rooms set up to view how stunning your wedding celebrations could look and at Smiths, visitors will be able to sample culinary treats that couples can enjoy on their wedding day.

Michelle Hall, Wedding Manager, Gretna Green, and her team have been planning the Wedding Fayre Extravaganza for months and are excited to meet everyone who comes along. “This is something special. A wedding extravaganza like no other, showcasing one little village in the south of Scotland that has the largest romantic heart in the world! Smiths Hotel – Carnival Wedding Fun

We see all sorts of fabulous decorations, table settings, favours and themes come through the door here at Smiths Hotel with many of our Gretna Green weddings having their wedding breakfast with us! From traditional and romantic to bespoke, fun and festive, in any colour imaginable! Every once in a while, one appears that captures our imagination! So we decided we’d start a new theme….a Wedding Focus of the Month!

Starting us off is this fantastic and fun carnival theme from a February wedding! We all wanted to join the party….especially with the disco going and the raffle prizes to be won!

The fun started even before one got through the door! The seating chart was made up of bags of ‘goldfish’each with the name of a guest….who were admitted entry only after picking up their fish!

Then one reached the tables! Guests were treated to table favours of tubs of popcorn and candy floss bringing back memories of the carnival! Remember trying to hook prizes floating in a barrel?? The tablecentres were bowls filled with bright rubber ducks….complete with rods to fish them out – just like at the fair!

Who doesn’t love a raffle….winning tubs of sweets or adorable stuffed animals?? Guests of this wedding were in for a trip down memory lane, bringing back memories of happily heading out the fair gates with prizes clutched tightly!

Last, but certainly not least, the cake of course! The main two tier cake was topped with a Lego Bride and Groom surrounded with highly decorated cupcakes displayed on a Ferris wheel! How fun is that!
